More than 80 years of
Búfalo tradition in Spain

Búfalo is one of a group of traditional brands which have been successfully asserting themselves in the world of commerce for decades. Búfalo has been constantly improving and adapting to new technologies and materials for more than 80 years, and has mastered the balancing act between tradition and innovation with great success:

The traditional shoe care brand Búfalo was founded in Spain, Barcelona in 1930. In 1933 the Búfalo Werner & Mertz, Barcelona became the product manufacturer.

The first Búfalo product was a special colour repair and care article called Búfalo blanco for white leather shoes, as white leather became a must-have accessory in this era. The rapid success of that first blanco product led to the development of a wide new range of shoe care products.

During the Second World War, the Búfalo company experienced difficulties for its production due to resource shortages. It therefore decided to extend its facilities so that it could be able to manufacture its own reserve. During this period, and up to the 1990s, production was located at Sant Adrià de Besòs, close to Barcelona, in Catalunya.

In 1989 the German Group, Werner & Mertz, decided to enter the Spanish market by acquiring the Búfalo company. Synergies were developed, particularly in terms of production. Búfalo was thus able to benefit from the modern technology available at the sites in Germany and Austria.
With its high-quality products, Búfalo today enjoys excellent worldwide brand acceptance. With a market share of more than 50%, this traditional brand remains the market leader in the shoe care sector in Spain.
